Majestic is a fictionalized account of the Roswell UFO crash of July 1947. Strieber is best known for his nonfiction bestseller Communion based on his alleged experiences with alien visitors who abducted him. Strieber prior to Communion was also a writer of popular science fiction and horror novels. Thus in Majestic he combines fact and fiction to re-create the era of July 1947 when a craft not of this earth crashed near Roswell, New Mexico, A massive cover-up ensued, headed by twelve government sponsored scientists and officials known as Majestic or MJ-12 for short. An alleged document leaked to a UFO investigator first told of the MJ-12 cover-up of UFO evidence. It has yet to be proved authentic or a hoax. Strieber in his novel assumes it to be true. In his novel Strieber uses some real names but also has fictional characters based upon actual historical personages. This may be confusing to some who want to know only the facts about Roswell However as novels go it is entertaining and may stimulate the interest of sci-fi readers who ordinarily wouldn't read a book on UFOs.
