Mountbatten: A Biography
By Philip Ziegler, Alfred A. Knopf
N.Y., 1985

What is a biography of English hero and statesman Lord Louis Mountbatten doing being reviewed in a UFO newsletter?  The answer is that Mountbatten had an intense interest in UFOs. This biography on pages 493 and 494 of the hardback edition details Mountbatten's interest in UFOs. He tried to get the editor of an English newspaper to have investigators study the more worthwhile cases. Later, Mountbatten got frustrated with the number of kooks and frauds in ufology and his interest diminished. This is all too true of this subject. People get frustrated that there is no solution to the UFO mystery. The media either ignores or ridicules the subject; tabloids write complete fabrications; and the result is that a well meaning investigator like Mountbatten becomes discouraged and gradually loses his interest in the subject. Mountbatten was related to the royal family of England, and it is said that Prince Philip also has an interest in UFOs. It is noteworthy that Mountbatten, as-early as 1950, speculated that the Cold War would end someday when the Superpowers united against a common threat: UFO's. On page 494 this speculation of Mountbatten is mentioned "If they really come over in a big way that may settle the capitalist-communist war. If the human race wishes to survive they may have to band together."
