Phenomena: A Book of Wonders

by John Michell and Robert Richard

Pantheon Books, N.Y. 1977

128 pages

This is a profusely illustrated volume of accounts of all kinds of strange phenomena.  The authors are editors of England's "Fortean Times" magazine, the foremost periodical devoted to mysterious occurrences.  Of interest to UFO buffs are the chapters on mysterious lights, cattle mutilations, and people who have been abducted.  The authors compare modern UFO abduction stories like the Travis Walton case of 1975 with the old tales of people being kidnapped by fairy beings.  In both cases, there is missing time that the abductee can't account for.  Anyone who thinks modern science can rationally explain everything should read this book. It is an eye opener.
